SUMMARY:6-Day Cob + Straw Immersion Workshop #1
DESCRIPTION:Cob + Straw Immersion is the most popular course/workshop at the Mud Dauber School of Natural Building and is designed to provide an understanding of three natural wall systems: cob\, strawbale\, and slip-straw. Working with multiple wall systems will provide you with insight into which will fit into your own potential projects best. You will also get experience mixing and applying earthen plaster! \nWith an emphasis on hands-on learning\, with most of each day spent on our work site. You will be building a sculptural cob garden wall on campus\, which simulates the process of building a house while still allowing everyone to have enough space to work and learn. You’ll also be installing full strawbale walls in a pre-constructed wooden frame\, plus demonstrating the slip-straw wall technique. On the final day\, the group will apply clay plaster to some of these natural wall systems. \nTo supplement our hands-on work sessions\, there will be time allotted for a local home tour\, a tour of the natural cottages on campus\, plus discussions/presentations on essential topics. They will also provide informational handouts to take home with you and share digital presentation materials for your own future reference. \nIn addition to the scheduled learning time\, there is a wonderful community aspect to our workshops. Three wholesome meals are provided each day\, which are shared as a group in our community gathering space. Plenty of unscheduled\, leisure time is available for relaxing. \nExpect to leave the workshop with the confidence and knowledge to take on your own natural building project! \nRegister HERE! \n  \n\n\n \n  \nAbout the Mud Dauber School of Natural Building: \nOur mission is to empower people by teaching them the skills of natural building. We believe in the effectiveness of hands-on learning\, and we make that our focus. We also recognize the importance of community\, and weave this belief into our workshop format through shared meals\, cob oven pizza parties\, and emphasizing a team approach on the worksite. \nThe Mud Dauber School campus shares land with the homestead of the owners Greg & Danielle.  We began running natural building workshops here in 2014\, and have co-created with our students a series of natural demonstration cottages\, garden walls\, and community spaces. With each new season\, we continue to work on our campus\, building new spaces and finishing old ones.
