A Family Business Builds & Rents Incredible Themed Tiny Houses

After tiny living for many years in their RV, the Westra family designed and built nine themed tiny houses for their dynamic Tiny Digs Hotel. This is a family business with a big heart, rooted in their sincere hope to inspire others to see the possibilities of beautiful, quality-built small spaces and the value of simple living.

As their lead builder, Bruce Westra, puts it, tiny houses showcase what possible when there's an emphasis on quality over quantity.

We also share tours of three of their themed tiny houses on wheels: the Barn, the Bamboo, and the Modern. Each is full of tiny house design ideas and cool features—the details make these so well-done!

1) Tiny Dig's Themed Tiny Houses: the Barn

The Barn themed tiny house is built on a 20-foot trailer and is approximately 150 square feet. It's full of country-style charm and one of the most truly livable designs at Tiny Digs Hotel.

Key Features & Design Ideas:

  • Gorgeous custom Dutch door
  • Wall-mounted fold-down table with artwork visible when it's folded up or down
  • Whisky-barrel bathroom vanity with sink
  • Stained pallet-wood sliding barn door for bathroom
  • Farmhouse apron-style sink
  • Storage stairs with hanging closet space and varied-size cubbies

2) Tiny Dig's Themed Tiny Houses: the Bamboo

The Bamboo themed tiny house is also built on a 20-foot trailer and is approximately 150 square feet. Inspired by Japanese design elements, this THOW plays with organic shapes and artful use of natural materials inside and out. Zen vibes begin as soon as you walk up to its mini porch with a little Koi pond—part of the immersive tiny living experience at Tiny Digs Hotel.

Key Features & Design Ideas:

  • Shou-Sugi-Ban siding, a fire-resistant ancient Japanese style of charred wood
  • Interior walls and ceiling covered in bamboo-style grasscloth
  • Custom-designed Tansu stairs, traditional Japanese storage cabinetry
  • A vessel sink floating over black river rock and jade stones
  • A custom sliding Shoji-screen door for the bathroom
  • Fold-down couch with a full-size mattress
  • Simple fold-up dining table

3) Tiny Dig's Themed Tiny Houses: the Modern

Another of Tiny Digs Hotel's themed tiny houses is the Modern, which embraces retro-modern flair in approximately 150 square feet. It is reminiscent of a 1960's futuristic bachelor pad, full of sleek yet playful elements. Interestingly, the tiny house features a unique see-through seating area suspended over the sleeping space. Similarly, the bathroom features a clear acrylic upper wall bringing in lots of light and openness to the shower.
